Stray Dogs Case: The Supreme Court of India reserves order on plea challenging removal of stray dogs from roads of Delhi and NCR. On 14th August 2025, court reserved its order on a plea seeking a stay on the removal of ‘Indies’. On 11 August 2025, court ordered municipal authorities the confinement of these dogs in shelters within 6 to 8 weeks.
Supreme Court’s bench of 3 judges, Justice Vikram Nath, Justice Sandeep Mehta and Justice NV Anjaria did not grant a stay on the directions issued.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta appearing for the Central government, argued, “Children are dying. Sterilization does not stop rabies, even if immunized”. He also mentioned the WHO’s report. According to which, data shows 305 deaths a year. most of are children, who are the age group of 15. He raised the concern on the behalf of parents that they cannot send their children out to play. SG said that dogs do not have to killed, just have to be separated. He also clarified that nobody is a animal hater.
